Counselling offers you a private, confidential space to talk, think and explore your thoughts, feelings and concerns, with the aim of bringing clarity, understanding and finding ways to move forwards.
Your initial session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to have a space to talk about the issues that have led you to seek therapy. It can help you to decide if therapy is the right path for you and how we might work together on your problems.
If I feel another therapist would be better suited to you and your situation, I will give you alternative options to explore.
Towards the end of the session, we’ll talk about how the session felt and make a decision about whether we’ll continue to work together. You’re under no obligation to continue working with me if you don’t want to, what’s important is that you find someone you feel comfortable talking to.
Therapy can be challenging at times and can bring up difficult feelings but exploring and working through these with your therapist is part of the process and will help you to understand yourself and your situation more fully.
Online counselling can be just as effective as face to face counselling but gives you the opportunity to have counselling from your own home or in a location that you feel more comfortable with. It also cuts out travel time and costs, so is more economical for you. Also, if you have mobility issues or are unable to leave the house for any reason, then this may be the option for you.
We will still be able to see and hear each other as we’ll be using the video call function and you can use a smartphone, tablet, laptop or PC to connect.
I ask that you find a quiet, private space, where you can speak freely without interruption. Our sessions will follow the same terms, format and consistency as face to face sessions, with an initial session to explore your concerns, what you’d like to gain from counselling and then we’ll decide if we’ll continue to work together. Online sessions will also be 50 minutes in length and will be at the same time each week.
I use a software called Zoom, which is secure and encrypts the data. I will email you a unique link, which you will click on at the session time, to connect to me.
If you’d like to discuss whether counselling is for you, then please feel free to get in touch.
